That’s the first working week over of the new year. Bit of a shock to the system but good to get normality kicked back into play.
It has been a really enjoyable season this year, which has recharged the batteries well enough for me to get right back into the re-design of the online presence.
For those of you who follow me on facebook and browse through the web site, you will notice a couple of schemes I am introducing. One I hope will be big help to the bride and groom with photography costs, and the other I hope will help families in need.
This year will be the start of a pricing structure more in line with other photographers. I feel that after 4 years of learning and building up experience, it was time to have the confidence to charge the going rate for the services offered. Though a look at the wedding packages on offer will show how competitive they are for value.
I’m aware of the human nature that wants what is best/better for ourselves, and when it comes to the wedding packages we are no different. Unfortunately the cost for something special is not in my hands alone but is determined by product costs and time needed to develop the compile the finished items.
With the soaring costs I am witnessing clients who enquire about the wedding packages on offer speaking more about the lower range rather than choosing items that really are polished and should be a reflection of the detail and expense placed upon the wedding itself. And so from this new year I have placed a scheme on the make a payment page which is there to offer clients a new way forward with photography.
Once a client has decided to book us for their wedding they can start to pay off amounts up until their wedding through the paypal site. But with the increasing costs of weddings many can’t afford to purchase albums they would desire and so have to settle for the lower products.
In steps the scheme!! We all have heard about wedding gifts unwanted or of the wedding list sent round by the bride and groom only to have friends wondering what on earth to buy them from it.
What better gift is there than for their family and friends to purchase a superb wedding package for them. It’s practical in that it relieves the couple from the expense of the photographer, and it’s tremendously important. After the wedding is long over, perhaps years from the event, the only physical reminder of that wonderful day will be the wedding album. It will also be the only treasure left to children and grandchild showcasing all the moments from the wedding, so how wonderful would it be to have a top range presentation album that anyone would take full pride in.
So that is the first big change this year.
Secondly, there is a Give something back scheme set up also.
I have been involved with sponsoring children in Africa, Brazil and Uganda over the past 16 years through World Vision. Cancer Research and ADD have also been organisations that have touched my heart and of which I made various donations.
With the financial crisis leaving many families stretched to the point that they no long can afford to support charities, including myself, I felt there was an opening through the Serene Photography profits to enable support to be given to them.
So from this year I will be taking a percentage out of any wedding bookings I receive, and the bride and groom will be asked which organisation they wish to make a donation to at no extra cost to them.
I am passionate about making money useful for good ends and feel strongly that it is a wonderful way for a couple starting out on life together to be able to make someone happy through their donation on their wedding day.
I will compile a list of charities as suggestions and list them on the page, but clients are free to choose which ever one they would like the donation to go to.
If they are local the opportunity is there for the bride and groom to travel with me to the charity and I can record it with a photograph which I know will be specially important to them.
Here is hoping the new year brings our clients much joy in our service for them and they in turn gain joy in knowing they have been able to help those not so well off.
Just leaves me to wish you all a successful and peaceful new year and I look forward to creating, capturing and presenting timeless memories through photography.
